Frequently Asked Questions

What size flipNets are available?

Large flipNets are designed for trees approximately 2.1 x 2.5m wide (7 ft x 8.2 ft).

XL flipNets are designed for trees approximately 2.6m high by around 3.4m wide (8.5 ft x 11 ft).

Variations within these ranges are generally acceptable, though some pruning may be required for the easiest install.

Do I need a set of poles for every net?

No. The poles are removable, so you only need one set if you are purchasing additional flipNets (nets without poles). For example, if you had 3 fruit trees you would buy one flipNet Set (with poles) and 2 Additional flipNets (without poles).

How do I install my flipNet?

Assemble the pole securely and insert it into the net's bottom sleeve. Spread the net, and raise it up and over the tree with a friend. Use the supplied elastic belt to secure and tidy the net around the trunk.

While slightly quicker with a friend, it is possible to install solo. Watch the Installation Video to the end to see how.

How do I remove my flipNet?

Removal is just as easy — or potentially easier — than installation. Watch the Removal Video for a demonstration.

What pests do flipNets prevent?

flipNets are proven against insects such as fruit fly, codling moth, and plum curculio, as well as birds, bats, rats, and possums.

Are flipNets safe for wildlife and birds?

Yes. Preventing entanglement is a priority. flipNets use bright white netting for greater visibility and have very small aperture holes that are too small for birds and animals to become entangled. Each net includes a large band to tidy the netting around the trunk, reducing loose material on the ground. In two years of testing and use, no animals have become stuck. flipNets exceed all regulatory requirements for wildlife safety.

Do flipNets prevent pollinators?

Yes — flipNets are designed to prevent all insect pests, including fruit fly, which also means bees cannot pass through. You should install the netting after the blossom has been pollinated and the fruit has just formed.

Do flipNets prevent squirrels?

flipNets are one of the toughest nets on the market; however, determined squirrels are able to chew through any plastic-based netting no matter how strong. While flipNets may deter squirrels, we recommend installing a galvanised mesh or chicken wire for a foolproof barrier. A flipNet can then also be installed over the top to protect against birds and insect pests.

Do flipNets protect against frost?

While not designed as a frost blanket, flipNets provide some protection from mild frost by reducing wind and creating a microclimate within the net. For anything more than a mild frost, a dedicated frost blanket is recommended.

Can I ship my flipNet set to a PO Box address?

No. flipNet sets exceed Australia Post PO Box size limitations and require a residential address for delivery.

How long do flipNets last?

flipNets are made to last, with a tough weave rather than a mesh, high GSM (grams per square metre) count, and high UV protection. They will last multiple seasons if treated with care and stored away between use.
